80 Years of the Nuclear Age: Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Hiroshima after the atomic bomb. U.S. National Archives.

80 years ago, in 1945, the U.S. military dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, shortly before the end of the Second World War. This poster exhibit, curated by the Hiroshima Memorial Peace Museum, remembers the two cities destroyed: Hiroshima and Nagasaki. CEDAR co-hosted the exhibit at the Fredericton Public Library during the month of October 2025.

The exhibit was opened on October 3 with a talk by M.V. Ramana, Professor and Simons Chair in Disarmament, Global and Human Security at the University of British Columbia.

An article in the NB Media Co-op about the exhibit featuring the video of M.V. Ramana’s talk is HERE.

The exhibit was brought to New Brunswick by five projects, programs and departments at St. Thomas University in partnership with the Fredericton Public Library. The STU CEDAR project, Sustainability and Environmental Studies Program, Human Rights Department, History Department and International Relations Program. CEDAR is supported by funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Canada.

You are welcome to download, display and share the exhibit poster, below. A French-language booklet with the poster text is HERE.
